The Day I Died

They said that doctors saved lives

That just going to the hospital will make everything alright

They said it's only spots and nothing to bad

But what they didn't know was that it had spread

We found out about one gloomy night

We found her on the floor in her bedroom crying out

She didn't like us to see her this weak

We knew something was wrong but to scared to see

We took her to the doctor

To our surprise the cancer had spread throughout her throat

It would be months before we ever found out

That lung cancer will follow her too

She was strong and put up a good fight

Always joyful but always tired

Never wanting to drink or eat

A feeding tube would do thing

Too tired and weak to function

Forced to put her in a hospital

She stayed for months and couldn't come out

Her house forgotten and rotting out

The day was sunny and sweet

But everything changed when we got a call

Rushing to the hospital to see her again

Watching her take her final breath

I couldn't believe that she actually died

She was happy to go and glad to be free

She was the only one who was supposed to die in that room

She took a part of me that could never be replace

The day I died was in that hospital room
