Day & Night

 We stop

From our nightly jog

I lay down

I feel the cold blades of glass pressed against my back

I hear nothing but the chirping crickets

I turn to all directions to realize that we are alone at the park

I see the clear dark sky

The stars shine and illuminate the dark corners of the park

The trees whistle as the wind runs by

The swings creek with loneliness

The children have gone home for the night

Just hours ago the park was full of life

The joy of families spending time together

The laughter of the baseball team on the field

The love between the couple as they starred at each other endlessly

The sadness of the widow walking her dog

I get Goosebumps

I realize how sad and lifeless a park can be without people.
