A Day To Remember

A Day We Will Always Remember

On the 11th day, in the year 01, in the month of September,

A day that we will not forget, no, we will always remember.

It was a day of tragedy; it was a day of terror,

It was a day of fire and black smoke that filled the air.

It was a day that we all watched in horror

As our loved ones were trapped on every floor.

They were trapped inside a burning inferno

There was no place to run and no place to go.

We stood and watched in great disbelief,

We watched, as people from out of a window would lean

In between life and death, hoping and praying for someone to intervene-

As they started to jump, to escape the raging fire

Our heroes were on their way, with each step climbing higher

People quickly fled the building, thankful to be alive

Some were bleeding, some burned, some they couldn’t revive

These were people, human beings, important to someone

A mother, daughter, sister, father, brother, or maybe a son.

Overwhelmed with pain, sadness, and incredible grief.

We thought this couldn’t be happening; this can’t be true;

We stood in amazement without even a clue

Now they’re gone, and only memories remain;

It has been a long while, yet we still feel the pain.

Pain in our hearts, and tears in our eyes

As so many have already said their final goodbyes.

This poem is for those that remain and those that have died.

As a nation, as a people, as the human race, we all have cried.

On the 11th day, in the year 01, in the month of September,

There is a day that we will not forget,

NO, WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER!
