The Day Before Yesterday
The Day Before Yesterday
it was planned for me.
What I would wear, my mom picked
What I would eat, my mom cooked
The Day Before Yesterday
it blew by quickly.
I'd get myself into the carseat so my mom could race me to school before eight
I'd get my work done fast so my mom would allow me to play in the mud until late
The Day Before Yesterday.
it let me sleep so soundly.
my mom would bathe me, read me a book, pray, then tuck me in
my mom would turn on my light, tell me to get up, then I'd wipe the drool off my chin
Yesterday
I was thrown into the deep end.
I spent half the day trying to learn how to do the laundry
I spent the rest of my money on a way to escape this quandary
Yesterday
I used all my time trying to make ends meet.
I worked nine to five
I worked on learning how to drive
Yesterday
I stayed up all night.
I thought about how I'm going to make it beyond graduation
I thought about how money is the only thing keeping me from the best school in the nation
Today
I wish it was the day before yesterday.
nothing ever seems to stay consistent
all I can do is wonder if my funds will ever be sufficient
The Day Before Yesterday
I was a kid.
I was calm.
Yesterday
I was a teenager.
I was in chaos.
Today
I am an adult.
I am searching for peace.
