To the Dead

In death, I hope you found peace,

Some release, from this cold, cold world.

You allowed it to wrap you in its icy warmth

And before you this deep rest was unfurled.

In dying, I hope you watched the pain fly away

Like a vulture into the night; take flight

On the great starspray ship into the foggy tomb,

As the dark you swallow grows into light.

Here in my arms you grow cold and stiff,

And to see you lifeless makes us ache;

To know you’ll never smile again

And that you will never once more wake.
