Dead Streets

Hey, I turned back on tiptoe No one there! Except a man Lying on the street-dead. I walk past in haste To the errand not to waste. Shhh! Again turned aside Nothing there too! Save a pavement with A body wormed; once a mortal life clasping across the concrete. Time is running apart! I move fast to my aim. Hello, Yes, tell me, I say. Eyes swelled, I bent down No, I can see empty sidewalk. Languishing therein a corpse; Bury me fast.... who speaks? Hooded ears: no voice. Trip aside, let me leave … Hold on, I get on to the ankle seized by an arm cold, No. Lifeless. I fall along, save me - leave me. No, you're not alone, now see! I cannot cry or walk, For I am not live. We are on the street, Only muddled flesh, flown souls None can cover us all we are not live, we are not.... The lamps laugh at us..... In the company of clustered snow .....our shroud... * Remembrance of covid-19 deaths in Ecuador.
