Dear 2017

Dear 2017,

You’re almost one which means soon you will be no more

Funny it would seem as if our world is soon to be no more

Hopefully the fireworks we see on your last day here aren’t nuclear bombs

Igniting the planet

You have grown up in such a short time

See around this time last year I cried

Because the world had shown its true colors and voted for grinch

Who stole my country tis of thee

Sweet land of white boys and torches of tiki

I wish we still had a dream,

I wish 2017 didn’t feel like 1619

Because I feel not wanted in this country

But hey, this isn’t about me

It’s about you

We all grow up but you would make it past another month or so

So thank you for teaching me how far we came

And how far we have gone back

The people we lost and those whose lives just began

Now time to close the calendar and look sanguine

For the future that is the year 2018
