Dear 2017,
Dear 2017,
You have branded me with the real meaning of:
Pain
Love
Struggle
And Freedom
I had no idea that the 1st of January
Would bring me to the lowest place I’ve ever been in my life.
Memories replaying in my mind, that I tried so hard to swallow
I can still hear the words he whispered in my ear.
Promising comfort & pleasure, but only receiving the feeling of defeat.
As if my screams weren’t loud enough
As if my body was speaking a foreign language, he could not understand.
I thank God
That even though rebellion had my tongue tied,
Refusing to say a word to him.
He covered me in grace, revealing the road of redemption.
You have given me time to learn myself a little more intimately.
Reminding myself of the voids I kept filling with the wrong things.
I was my own worst enemy.
2017,
You’ve proven to me that pain is strength,
Love is patient,
Struggle is victory,
Forgiveness is freedom
