Dear Adolescence

Dear Adolescence,

I want you back.

I want your unicorns, your dragons, your floor of lava,

Your snack time, nap time, play time,

Any time,

To escape reality--

Like an addict,

Like an addict uses drugs, I used you.

Abused you, assaulted you, took advantage of you.

Now I lust after you

Lust after the times when staying up late was rebellious

When your friends died of laughter

Not car accidents and suicide.

Take me back, take me back,

Take me back to the days

When cartoons were our religion.

Propaganda encouraging our behavior

Not when propaganda is religion

Our Christ, Lord, and Savior.

When giant walls were structures built from legos,

Eventually falling down with a clank on the floor.

Tick Tock

Time’s up. Can’t go back.

My hands can’t turn back and reset

But time must go on

I just ask that you go with me

You, your sunshine, and youthful spirit

Within me for the rest of time

On my next journey and throughout my climb.

Sincerely,

Mimi (aka Mikaelyn)
