Dear America,

Dear America,

I’m angry, disappointed, and wondering how,

You fell so far from the tree’s highest bough.

You grew and grew, and were once number one,

But many claim you flew too close to the sun.

You get second chances, as many do not,

But you refuse to learn or to be taught,

Instead you suffer day after day,

Wondering, how is it you got this way?

Applaud one step forward, ignoring two back,

Pretending that it is not tolerance you lack.

The generation before trying to raise kids the same,

But instead grow upset when they point out their shame.

I hope for a future filled with resilience,

For change like no other with noteworthy brilliance.

America, you’ve certainly had lows and had highs,

But you’re helping no one by displaying a guise.

 Sincerely,A Concerned Citizen
