Dear America

Dear America,

America was built on the basis of freedom and liberty

The vast landscape we see today,

Was built out of nothing,

Built out of hard work,

Built out of blood, sweat, and tears.

Our founding fathers put everything that they had into this project,

This experiment,

And it may seem as if it is becoming a crumbling bridge,

Or a falling tower,

So I ask, should we be proud?

All the hard work to get what we deserve,

May becoming lost.

Because calling someone the “N-word” has become cool,

Instead of offensive, and derogatory.

And woman are seen as objects, instead of people.

This bridge that we have spent so many years building may start to crumble to pieces,

Any second.

So I ask, should we be proud?

There are people bubbling over into this country,

Like a pot, that has been left on the stove a little too long.

They come here for the opportunity,

They come here for the freedom of speech,

They come here to make their lives worth living.

They have pride in this country.

Should we take after them?

Or do they take after us?

Do we show them how great America is?

Or do they just see our face, our skin, our surface

And not what is underneath?

Maybe they see our bridge as the best bridge in the world, the strongest.

And we should start to do the same.

So today,

Is a day for a fresh start,

A day to accomplish something good,

A day to start rebuilding the bridge,

So yes, we should be proud,

Today.

Yours Truly,

Amber
