Dear American Society,

Dear American Society,

By: Euribiades Cerrud III

Dear American Society

Our chapter is coming to a close

For our current path, the one we take

Will eventually lead us to our doom

Is this what we want?

A society of hatred and dismay

Where brother judges brother

Just because he was not born where the other was

A society where the news of a celebrity's pregnancy

Outweighs the news of scientific discovery and progress

A society where those who dream are called out and ridiculed

For wanting a better world, a better life

A society that must hate each other

To where one has to end one's own life to stop the suffering

A society under constant fear

Of things that are statistically rare or impossible to occur

A society where more money is spent on killing our fellow humans

Then that which is spent on our outdated education system

A society that riots just because they have taken something out of context

Even if it was of pure intent

A society where ignorance is bliss

That we’d rather watch cute cat videos then educate ourselves about the world

A society where the best schools of education

Will only teach someone if they drain themselves of their funds

A society that still thinks they are the best in the world

When we are surpassed by those societies we helped create

A society where we’d rather shut down our own government

Then come to an agreement with those who view the world differently than us

A society where we’d rather kill our own planet

Then to leave our old ways of life

A society where corporations would rather drive this country into economic distress

Then to fix their mistakes

A society doomed to fail

A society that has killed the American Dream

Sincerely,

This society’s children.
