Dear Anxiety
Dear Anxiety,
It’s me again
The girl of many words
The girl with nary a friend
Though, friends seem to come in herds
It has been so long since we last spoke aloud
I thought you had gotten tired of my tears
But somehow, my mind you cloud
You express my deepest, darkest fears.
The medication won’t keep you away
It simply alters my mind
The chemicals physically alter my brain
Hides the real me where no one can find.
Why would I alter who I really am?
To hide from the evil inside me?
When honestly I could just take a stand
Overcome this life so stormy.
But here I sit,
Alone in my room
Rocking in a fit
All because of you.
You break my heart,
You scar my skin
I wish you’d depart
My walls are too thin.
I’m weaker each day
As blood spills down my lips
Those words I’d never say
From my bitten tongue it drips.
So here I write
Professing my pain
For some reason in spite
Spoken words are profane.
My lips are sewn shut
I reply with “I’m fine”
Why do you do this?
Well…
This life is mine.
I’m taking control.
I’m grabbing the reins.
I’m gonna stand tall
To fight off this bane.
So don’t ever come to knock on my door
You’ll not here a sound
I’m not yours anymore.
Sincerely to you
The girl breaking free
Trust me, it’s true.
I was born to be ME
