Dear Anxiety

Dear Anxiety,

You have made me who I am.

You have followed me around and watched over me and you have slowly crept inside my head.

You learned my fears and weaknesses and secrets.

You twisted my thoughts into something dark.

You whispered things when I didn’t want to hear you.

You made my mind your home and me your prisoner.

So many times I can remember,

I wanted you gone, I wondered why you were there, why you were causing so much pain.

I didn’t understand. I didn’t have enough strength to understand.

But now I’m older, anxiety. I know who you are, and why you are here.

And you know, I am glad you are here because you have taught me I can survive more than I thought I could.

Thanks to you, I know my strength.

I know I am able to do things that seem impossible.

Because you have shown me that what seems impossible, isn’t.

You have made me who I am.

-          A stronger person
