Dear Basketball,

Thank you.

Thank you for the many years of liberation.

Thank you for the many years of happiness.

Thank you for the many years of memories.

Thank you for the many years filled with laughter.

Thank you for the many years of endless friendships.

And thank you for the everlasting transformation you had upon me.

I have known you since I was 9 and since then we were inseparable.

We played inside and outside, anywhere possible as long as we had a flat surface to glide and hoop to shoot in.

I can recall every aspect and detail about you inside and out;

Your swiftness, your competitiveness, your enthusiasm, and your very presence.

I love everything about you, but most of all the positive influence you had upon me.

Before you, I was timid and permissive,

constantly looking for recognition from others.

I hated being the center of attention and definitely wasn’t one to boss one around.

With you, i am strong and determined.

The world suddenly becomes less overwhelming and i forget about my problems.

I become more open and free as I form bonds with others who love you too.

Over the years, you have manifested yourself into my character;

I am filled with confidence and it is evident as I walk with long, powerful strides.

Whereas before, I crept with short, soft steps, moving unnoticed

I am now a leader because of you; I am no longer afraid to express my opinions

You have given me pride and satisfaction with who i am

I am grateful for meeting you and will love you till the end
