Dear Blanket (A Sonnet)

I used to use you as a shelter warm,

When the night was dark and silent to me,

So then I could drown out the sounds of storm;

You were my comfort against the fruit tree.

As I grew older, I stopped needing you

To fight my battles I had overcome;

For I believed that I had broken through,

All the nightly fears were under my thumb.

But my fears were not just of the dark night,

Angry yelling and a sadness abounds

Responsibility held with no might,

Now I feared day when my feet hit the ground.

I gather up in you so tightly so,

Blanket make my fears be the ones to go.
