Dear Brain

Dear Brain,

I see that you have stopped functioning properly again.

I am sending this letter to you in hopes that it might wake you up.

You have begun to do this when I want to get my homework done.

You slip into a trap of your own making, making, just, you feel numb.

The limbs remember how to work, only through muscle memory.

I don’t always mind it, but you won’t come out when you’re told.

I can’t tell what some people are saying to me. It sounds as if they are gargling.

I like big words, but you jumble them up and won’t make them make sense.

I can’t think my way through this fog, it gives me a headache.

I have been trying to not slip back into this, but I accidentally gave in today.

It was only for a moment, I thought “I won’t have much thinking to do today.”

Then everything clouded over.

I couldn’t think coherently.

I am here, or maybe I’m still dreaming.

If I hit you against the keyboard right now, will the fog lift?

Or will it only cloud over more?

Ugg, maybe, I’ll think about how to deal with you when I can think again.

I’m still waiting for that reboot,

or like when you restart the computer and it makes that big whirring noise.

That would be nice, a nice great big brain restart.

So nice.

Sincerely,

The rest of me.
