Dear Cancer

Dear cancer,

to stagger one's life

at such an early stage,

is unforgivable.

The journey begins

with late nights

and scary calls.

Nights spent on edge

and nights spent feeling alone,

as if you are on a ledge,

nowhere to run.

You encase my body

and shroud us in fear,

all to assert dominance,

making the possibility of life

all the more unclear.

I fight to the end,

a battle that seemingly

cannot be won.

My body wants to give out,

ready to leave the land of the living.

When all hope is lost,

sudden silence.

Win or lose,

the everlasting affect,

is dreary over my body.

Yet I have won.
