Dear Cody

Dear Cody,

For six years, you have been my biggest fan

You have been excited whether I failed or won

You have been an irreplaceable best friend

You have been a blessing

You have been my dog.

Your tail wags when I look at you,

Your fur flops into your eyes,

Your butt wiggles when you’re happy,

Your mouth carries an upside-down hedgehog toy,

Your love is bottomless.

Never have I had someone so excited when I walk through the door,

Had someone whose absence is so heartfelt and obvious

I’ve never met a dog who loved me more than food,

But you have

You’re a special dog, Cody.

You growl with no evil intention

You hide from squirrels

You’re terrible at going on walks

And it took you three months to learn to sit

But although you aren’t the sharpest bulb,

You’re the happiest soul.

Sincerely,

A girl who is grateful to learn from her dog;

A girl whose dog is her best friend.
