Dear College

Dear College,

I’m not a picture perfect student; I don’t have straight A’s, I don’t do enough community service, and my family doesn’t come from a high academic standard, but I know the realities of life. I know what is to have one’s body give up on them, to have the one thing you love betray you, to face adversity at home, to push myself and still fail, I know what it is to fight till the end and see glory in the long come. At the age of fourteen my life changed drastically, I like to think of it as a Holden Caulfield moment, I felt my innocence vanish and the cold truth of reality sink in. Looking around I saw my friends still in their small world, still intact, and I envied their happy lives filled with aspirations but little did I know that feeling out of place was the best thing that could've happened to me. I am different, my mind works in peculiar ways, that many don’t understand but many admire. I’ve experienced many things through my short teenage life, many which broke me, many that I’m still trying to get up from, but that's the point, I get up. I’m not afraid of challenge, to step out of my comfort zone and push my limits mentally and physically, that’s what I have to offer. My full dedication.

Sincerly, Alma
