Dear Dad

Thank you

For all the times

That you taught me

Love is unconditional,

Even though we carry

The weight

Of hundreds of miles between us.

I understand

Sometimes work takes priority,

Stealing you from our home

For days at a time.

But

You would always come back

                             from months of being gone.

You would always hold me tighter

each time you see me again.

You would always remind me

how special I am to you.

Times have proven

To become tougher

With each passing season.

We have started

To see less of one another,

Our hours spent elsewhere.

And that

Is a tragedy all in itself.

I understand

With the distance in miles

Sparks the distance in our voices

Leading to the distance in our hearts.

But

You always welcome me

               after months of silence.

You always laugh with me

                at stories told too late.

You always look at me

with the face of a proud father.

While our time is limited

And days often numbered

I treasure each moment

I share with you.

And thankful

Beyond words

For the many things you have taught me

And being my father through the thick

And the thin.

With Love,

Your Daughter
