Dear Dad

Flashbacks keep coming from when there was no alcohol.

There were smiles and laughs, That's when I lost nothing at all.

Our relationship wasn’t strained, we were best friends to say the least.

Now with your addiction, it transformed you into a beast.

You took my hand into yours whenever I fell.

You wiped my tears, gave me advice, but these good times went to hell.

As the virus entered your body, coursed its way up and around your veins.

The overall outcome caused us all a terrible pain.

I pushed and I screamed, trying to get you to snap out of it.

I gave up cause I realized I was just a 10 year old kid.

Each day is a struggle you have your ups and downs.

A good day is treasured, while bad ones make me frown.

Dad, don't try to say sorry, because it will never be true.

Don't even say to me “ I'll make it up to you”.

Not gonna call you dad, You don't deserve that title.

You're just Philip now and my decisions final.

You started to change you into someone I couldn’t recognize.

Then became two people, your own Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Dumping the booze down your throat, like its the last one you would have.

Ever since I was young, you told me alcohol is bad.

Right at this moment, at seventeen years old.

The pain won't leave my body until my entire story is told.

One of the worst nights of my life was all your fault.

You covered my mouth for minutes, I couldn't breathe or even talk.

Stole money and time, which can never be given back.

I hate that I had to grow up, everything just happened too damn fast.

I reached out to your family and friends for help.

Thought was a good idea, but that plan didn't work out so well.

Stop the cursing and the screaming.

That's going to get you nowhere with me.

Finally try to act like the man you should be.

I feel nothing when I see you or hear your name

No love, no compassion, for this you are the one to blame.

All I ask is that you own up to the damage you caused.

Maybe even after reading this you will finally see your flaws.

Its sad that you can’t see that you have a problem.

Andrew, Mom and I know that you're an alcoholic.

Tried so hard for months for you to see the truth.

No matter what was said or told, you still went for the booze.

I don’t think you get I hate you with a passion.

Not all the reasons are here, there are still many more to mention.

Change is all I ask for...

It’s all I want to see...

Maybe I’ll get my dad back...

And from this addiction you will be freed.

I never will knowunless you actually try.

If not, then expect me Philip to finally cut all ties.
