Dear Dad
I look up to you dad,
You must know that I do,
You’re the most important man in my life
That I look up to.
I admire you dad,
And appreciate all you’ve been through,
But don’t you see dad,
My expectations rely on you.
Why don’t you hear me dad?
Why is my throat in a knot?
Don’t you know dad,
In my life you’re the one man I’ve got.
Don’t you know dad that when I grow old
When I move out into the world that is cold
What you’ve taught me, dad, won’t be the only thing I know.
The way you treat me dad will also show.
Is it okay dad
When my boyfriend yells at me?
When he makes me feel so small?
When that lump in my throat makes it hard to breathe?
Because that’s what you’ve taught me dad.
That’s what I’ve grown to know.
But it’s okay dad.
I’ve learned to let it go.
Dad, What would you do,
If my husband treated me just like you?
