Dear Dad, You Missed It
Many of yall know how it is to grow up without a dad,
but for those of you who dont, I hope you appreciate what you have.
My dad wasn't there to teach me how to ride a bike,
or to give me a hug when life wasn't going right.
He left when I was 12,
Choosin' drugs over the love he was supposed to show his kids.
But instead decided snorting those lines was more important in life.
Spent all these years searching for the love he never gave to me,
even when he was around he failed to see all the pain he was putting us through.
Spending his last dime just to get high,
while we were at home waiting for food to be put on the table
in a home that was no longer stable.
Drive by's happening down the street,
dad buying and selling drugs behind the scenes.
waisting his existence instead of putting forth the effort to remain persistant and clean.
For years, he was searching for a reason to leave.
He found that reason and was gone in less than a week.
Don't know how you can up and leave your kids like that,
they're supposed to be the most important things in the world to yah and thats a fact.
But I'm tired of living in the past,
its time for me to show you what you up and left.
You missed it.
You missed me crying myself to sleep at night when I got my heart broken for the first time.
You were supposed to be there holding me tight,
letting me know everything was gonna be alright.
Its okay though,
I learned everything I needed to know on my own.
I became Brave and Strong.
God, my mom, and my siblings were the only ones who remained by my side this long.
Everyone else is temporary,
but you weren't supposed to be,
you were supposed to be here forever man!
I guess forever came and im living an extra day.
without you by my side,
its been a hard life,
but time moves on and so did I,
without you there for the good and bad times.
I'm happy now.
WOW,
Betcha didn't expect that.
But guess what,
expect the unexpected.
Im doing great without your ass!
And only the kids who grew up without a father can understand the pain and the heartbreak
that you put me through on a daily basis.
had me wondering if you were ever gonna come back,
because the bond between a daddy and a daughter is supposed to be a forever kind of pact.
But I'm doing fine and I hope that sends a shiver down your spine,
because you missed me growing up and only someone without a heart can manage that.
You missed it!
you missed me going through highschool and watching my brother graduate.
you missed watching me cry from lack of self love,
and building myself up learning about confidence all on my own.
you missed it daddy!
you missed everything!
why'd you have to miss it?
why'd you have to leave?
I thought you were supposed to be the only guy I could count on to love me forever.
I guess forever came to an end and I'm still here and you aren't.
I'm living my life better than you could ever imagine and its sad you had to miss it.
Dear Dad, I'm sorry for you.
im sorry you couldnt see me turn into the beautiful young lady im proud to call me.
you missed it.
