Dear Depression
Dear Depression,
You are a blanket, covering me at night, keeping me at bay.
You are a friend, holding me, even in my darkest times.
You are the smile on my face, contagious to everyone around me.
You are the breath I breathe, making sure I live another day.
But you aren't all you seem to be.
You are itchy, always keeping me awake.
You betrayed me, being the darkness in dark times.
You are fake, my smile is broken underneath.
You are toxic, killing me slowly.
But that isn't all you do.
You hold me back, making sure I trip
You whisper in my ear, hoping I'll believe it
You always love to mock me, hurting my esteem.
You want me to fail, to burden myself with hate.
But you won't succeed
I've always overcame, and always forever will.
No matter my weakness, or how deep you cut me
I will not bleed like you want me
I've shed blood, I've shed tears, all in your name
You loved me then cursed me.
You turned my life inside out.
You didn't just change me, you broke me.
You made sure I wouldn't see the same ever again.
But you will NOT take my life away from me
Love, Cherokee
