Dear Depression
Dear Depression,
You have caused too many problems.
Pain.
Suffering.
Breaking.
Down.
Without a chance to escape.
Scared to take a risk, to make a friend, to finish school.
Brother.
Happy memories engulfed in gloom.
You overwhelmed my brother.
My mother.
My father.
Sister.
Me.
My family impacted by your darkness.
That darkness that took an uncle.
A friend.
But,
it did not take my brother.
Although, it came close when I was twelve, and again at sixteen.
Put him in the hospital. Hopeless and empty.
The medicine, therapy, and useless treatments?
Not cheap.
Your desperate clinging to my brother took our money.
College money.
MY college money.
Domino effect.
Parents suffer,
as do I.
Worth it?
Yes.
My brother is breaking from your darkness,
becoming the light I once knew.
You could not take him,
You will not break me.
I will succeed,
and so will he.
Even though you linger,
YOU will not succeed.
Fuck you,
Elena
