Dear Depression

Sat, 12/09/2017 - 16:23 -- Stew

Dear Depression,

Hello, dark pit
With death lying in the bottom
Hello, abyss
With icy rain pouring from above
Hello, ladder
With your rusty rungs and broken screws
Hello, pain
The bloody reminder that I’m still alive
How are you today?
How is your life-sucking breath?
Your constant reminder that I’m not enough?
What is your plan today?
Will I be planning or crying?
Will I be curled up in a ball and hiding?
Will my arms bear new scars?
What torture do you have planned today?
Will you be working solo? Or are there bullies to help you?
Will innocents be involved? Will someone unknowingly hurt me?
Pain comes in so many ways I’ve found.
Well, guess what, I’ve learned something.
You are powerless.
You’ve torn me down and forced me farther down this pit.
You’ve spoken lies into my ears and forced me to believe them.
But not anymore.
I know someone stronger than you.
I know someone who heals.
I know someone who has hope.
Hope! And peace, which passes all understanding.
Guess what, I am not alone.
There is someone who is with me, who has never left me.
There is someone who is stronger than death.
Are you scared depression? Are you scared, now that I am not?
Are you trembling like I have trembled?
Maybe you are.
You can lie to me all you want, but I know truth.
You can cover my eyes, so I cannot see,
But I know who holds the light.
Every day, I am growing stronger,
Every day I can see more and more light.
I am not beaten, I am not destroyed.
I am hopeful for my future.
I am hopeful for a new life.
You cannot kill me, and you will not.
You cannot touch me.

 Hello, depression.
I see you’re messing with a child.
An innocent just trying to live.
Not anymore
because I am no longer in the pit, I will help others get out.
I will help those who can’t help themselves
I will fight you, till my dying breath.
Are you scared depression?
You should be.

Sincerely,
Scarred but still Fighting.
