Dear Depression and your friends

Dear Depression and your friends,

I can whole heartedly say I do not miss you. I am so happy. For the first time, in a very long time, you stopped inappropriately stalking my mind and my heart. Thankfully, I’ve been using a repellant called love to keep you away. You like to pretend that you forgot the things you’ve done to me or how you made me feel. How can you forget about the countless sleepless nights of me staring at the ceiling until the sun came up? Or when I did get some restless rest, you pinned me down to my bed and made feel like there was a ton of bricks on my chest. You suffocated me. How about the days I was starving but you told me I couldn’t eat? You forced me not to take showers and to wear the same clothes day after day. Since I was a young girl, you made my life worse and worse. You take pride in the fact you’ve made me gain 160lbs since I was 14 years of age. You made me feel unconfident, unaccomplished, worthless… You made me feel like a failure at best. The worst was when your best friend anxiety came to visit. I have a few special words for him as well. Anxiety, why? Why did you join forces with Depression and try to take me down like I was the evil one? I did nothing to you. All you did was make me push the ones I love away. You make me afraid to try new things and meet new people. You always make my social life look like the haunted house at the end of an abandoned street. My body is a high-rise building. Tall, strong, and beautifully architected. When you and Depression come around, it’s like a dangerous chemical reaction. Your reaction fogs up my building and it’s so hard to get you out. But when the fan of love comes, it blows away every bit of fog. I’m just so happy that my building is so big it takes a long time for you to fill it up again. But when you do come back, love is around the corner and is always prepared to blow you away.

Not so best wishes from your beloved enemy,

Me.
