Dear Diary

Dear diary, The bank lied to me again, And I ask for money from my friends and my kin, But during this recession there is no one that I can depend, So Im gonna write a letter to the capital and the moment its done I will send, Because I’m tired of fake bankers and their heartless smiles and grins, I tell my wife and kids it’s alright and I try to pretend, But deep down I’m open and hoping that my eviction time will extend, I can’t fathom the embarassment of being pulled from my home by police, And exposing my family to the homelessness in streets, I beg I plead but I’m close to defeat, And I’m trying to believe that this loan application will soon be complete, I lie to the kids and say well go in the back yard and camp cuz these broken lamps and cutting it, And because of my income my wife food stamps are being cut by government, I am a man apart hurt and dismayed, And until im out this debt ill hope and ill pray Dear Diary, I just got a loan modification, I guess me and wife aren’t having an anniversary, Cuz I used the money saved up for our first vacations, There was zero in my checking account in my last bank statement, And all the stocks I invested in have gone down to the pavement, I wish I never bought this house and I could have avoided this situation, And so much for the American dream home in this fake American nation, Im a debt prison and there is no hope of escaping, That’s why kids eating expired raisins instead of hot eggs and bacon, Its all Bush’s fault that im struggling and trapped, He bankrupted our economy with wars and made the housing market collapse, I try to call the banks but customer service is crap, And they refer me to unanswered phones and postponed contacts, My son got in USC and I cant even afford to put him through college, He would be the first generation but apparently the lower middle class is forgotten, Im taking extra shifts to ensure that his dreams exist, But my second job sent pink slips saying that I am dismissed, My little daughter has pneumonia and shes coughing and sick, But my mortgage payments are so high that I can’t afford to send her to the hospital to get an iv in her wrist, Between work and hustling I am completely exhaust, And ill finish writing later because the bill collectors is calling, Dear Diary, There is an eviction notice on the front of my door, And I been praying so much that my knees is the same color as the dirt on my floor, I asked for an extention but they don’t listen no more, So I packed our stuff up cuz my uncle said we can live with him even though he is poor, My childrens smiles are gone when I look I only see frowns, But what can I do if my mortgage is upside down, The IRS came through and my assets are chained up, My credit score is down and im totally bankrupt, The banks is controlling, Im Homeless and hopeless, No food on the table and no couches and sofas, Cuz right now Americans aren’t America’s focus , Their promises are bogus, Its highway robbery and our homes have been stolen, But they disguise it with big words like defaults and foreclosing, That’s why the car is repossessed and my liquid assets are frozen, Greed has deceived and made my family broke, But ill hold out a little longer, reaching for hope, Dear diary, I was watching the news last night, And they said that they passed the homeowners Bill of rights, I heard the bank have to pay 18 million in penalities, And its about time cuz they been committing financial crimes for centuries, Bank of America and JP morgan got some debts to pay, Cuz they been hoarding money since massa’s account during slavery days Citigroup, wells fargo and chase im talking to you, Its time to settle the score because relief is due, We not lazy people and we not cases for charity, Were American citizens and its time for transparency, No more loopholes and clauses because we are demanding for clarity, It doesn’t matter how long it takes we gone put the real back in real estate, And one day the people will escape, And don’t worry the homeowners bill of rights is definitely great, But the reality is it’s a bit little and a bit too late,

SIMbolic

My name is Simeon Carson and I am 20 years old. I was born in Harbor City, California and received the majority of my upbringing in Compton, California. I graduated from Dominguez High School in June of 2011. My role models are Huey P. Newton, 2pac Shakur and Malcolm X. Since my adolescence, I have been fascinated with the English language and wordplay. Since words were and still are my forte' I've spent countless hours studying the dictionary and literature beyond school. At the age of 8, I was regarded as prodigy because of the advanced English skills I had developed. I had honed and refined my skills near perfection, but I was not satisfied; I decided to find a creative outlet to showcase my talents so I took up poetry as a hobby. Year after year I gradually improved until I had become a prominent poet in my neighborhood. Growing up in the Compton, which was known for various rappers such as N.W.A. and Ice Cube, I was exposed to the urban hip-hop culture and I also took up rapping as a hobby. When I reached the high school level I had decided I wanted to be a lawyer and eventually a politician. I always had a passion to lead so I became involved in organizations such as the Black Student Union and Associated Student Body in High School. After a year of dedicated service to both organizations, I was elected Senior Class Vice President and the Black Student Union President. The B.S.U. encouraged me to study history and analyze my surroundings. As a result I developed a radical critical consciousness. It became evident in my poetry that I was becoming more aware of my surroundings. I took notice of how modern hip hop pollutes the mind of the youth and I stopped rapping completely and focused on my poetry. After meeting the urban spoken word artist Food4Thot I decided wanted to combine hip hop and poetry so I became a spoken word artist as well. As of September 2012, I have served as the resident poet for 90.7 fm's Tuesday night political talk show, Beautiful Struggle. I have also made appearances on New Era Radio and as a teacher for the Occupy LA movement, I love poetry and hip hop equally, so I decided to use my talents to educate the misguided youth of my generation. The subject matter of my poetry now reflects serious political and world issues such as racism, child molestation, capital punishment and a majority of other controversial issues. There is nothing more satisfying to me than being able to do what I love and help people at the same time. I rhyme for the people.
