Dear ex boyfriend

Dear ex boyfriend,

Thank you for putting me through the worst 6 months of my life; Although such a short amount of time was spent with you, you managed to rip every bit of my soul apart. Thank you for the constant hateful words that cut into my heart like a knife; The scar will forever be there. Thank you for threatening to beat me, and ruin my reputation; I still have flashbacks and anxiety every time someone makes a sudden movement or has dirt on me. Thank you for always making me feel guilty for doing what I love; I am still embarrassed to tell people about my passions. Thank you for putting me in a dark place in my life; That I am still working every day to get out of every single day. Thank you for the countless amount of arguments that tore me down; Your words still burn in the back of my mind. Thank you for ruining my self image, for telling me no one loves me and that I should kill myself, manipulating me to do whatever you wanted; I am still working to love myself. Thank You for never showing me what real love is like; When someone wants to treat me right I have no idea how to react and end up hurting people. Thank you for still making me cry myself to sleep at night because I think about all of the hurt you put me through; It is so hard to get a peaceful sleep with so many awful thoughts racing through my mind. Thank you. Thank you for putting me through hell, because now I realize what I deserve, and its not you. I realize that my heart is too precious and big to let anyone treat me like you did ever again. You may have tore me down, and have had a lasting effect on me, but I am getting better. I am learning to let go of all of the hateful things you said to me. I am learning to love myself. I am learning that I deserve the world. I am learning that all of the awful things you said to me to tear me down, were not true; Those words were your own insecurities that I hope you can get over one day. Thank you for allowing me to be tore down, so that I can be strong enough to pick myself back up again. Thank you for coming into my life and teaching me the greatest lessons of my life, for making me realize my own self worth, and to love others and love myself. I can not thank you enough.

thank you,

allison

thank you, ex boyfriend, for showing me how not to be treated, and to show me what I deserve. This poem truly let me get everything that has been racing through my mind out on paper, and I feel so at peace.
