Dear Failure,

Dear failure,

I won’t even bother putting caps on your name

All you ever do is try your best to put me to shame

To make others hate me, to think that I’m dumb,

But really, it’s never about anything I’ve done.

There once was an old man, in a famous Chinese fable,

Who tried to move mountains, but wasn’t able.

Those in his village, they pointed and laughed,

They really couldn’t believe that he’d be so daft.

For years he tried to move these mountains,

He never gave up, not even with the fountains

Of hate he receives from his fellow villagers,

Who told him to stop, he was gonna get hurt.

Eventually, the gods were impressed,

He had never stopped, not even for a rest.

They parted the mountains, and left the path clear,

The old man was happy to see what he’d done here.

Although he never moved those mountains,

Each day he worked hard and he got some sick guns.

He saw his progress as a success,

Not necessarily the outcome, did he address.

Often times I wonder what I did wrong,

To not get the outcome that I rightfully won.

But really it’s not about what comes after,

So long as we remember that what’s important is laughter,

And smiles and friends and family too,

They last forever, and they are your glue.

So failure, take that.

All you’ll get is a tip of my hat,

As I pass you by on the road of life,

I choose to see you as a stepping stool, not as strife.

I’ll see you around, you can count on that,

But next we meet, we’ll be friends at last.
