Dear family,
We are no longer family
Blood is not thicker than water if
It is deseased.
I have one member in my new family, it would be two
But you stole my dog and sold him for drug money.
So it is just me and eric
The one you forced me away from
Forced me to go back to an abusive ex instead
Because you wouldnt know what love is
If it stood infront of you.
Who stays up at night, walking me through flashbacks?
Who answers my call, even at bad times?
Who will tell me stories and sing songs on my worst nights?
Who will slay my demons with me?
Who bought me new keys when I lost mine?
Who has talked me off the edge of death, because of your collective actions?
Who paid 30 dollars for my uber ride home in that snowstorm?
Who pushes me to be healthier?
Who got me that expensive graphing calculator for school?
Who makes me smile and laugh?
Who makes my stomach light and flutterly when he laughs?
Who reminds me not to drink my problems away?
It sure as hell wasnt you.
He has spent 5 years picking up the peices from the abuse.
Phone calls at 4 am.
Fits of crying in the middle of conversations
The pain of his voice when your wounds surface
Is enough to wage war over.
He has worn so many hats for me
He has stepped in as a father, administering advice and stories his father gave to him
Teaching me to be stong
To be wise
Teaching over lessons I had learned wrong from you.
I went years, thinking, with conviction!
Father's always sexually exploit and abandon their children.
Always try and threaten to kill them.
I had to be sat down and corrected on that
As a grown woman
By a man who had nothing to do with your crimes.
He had to re-establish simple life facts like this.
Like fathers protect and love their kids.
That men can love. And often do.
He has had to be a mother.
Had to listen. And sooth. And give relationship advice.
Encourage me to get out of bed in the morning.
To push through my day.
He's been a brother.
Teasing me in that endearing way.
He and I spend the good times playing games.
And of course the lover
Making me a better person day by day.
Giving me parts of him self
He once swore he would never give away.
I look at him, and i see children, and growing old.
Sons that grow into good men.
Strong men.
Heroic men.
Because god knows, the world needs more men like him.
With him, the thought of children doesnt give me fear.
I dont worry about him with our daughters.
I don't stress the family curse...
That ever woman in that family gets raped by some one
At some point.
His daughters will be the safest girls that ever lived.
He is the only man ive every fully imangined with kids.
So he is all the family I have and need for now.
He fills every hole in my heart.
He is my strength.
And with him
I can do anything.
