Dear Fear
Dear Fear,
Your darkness surrounds me as your weight pulls me under
Inhibiting my ability to see.
I gasp as I sink further and further
I can't get enough air to breathe.
I thrash toward the surface with all my might
As the panic sears through my chest.
I tell myself I can't leave this way,
It will leave too much of a mess.
I move my arms and thrash my legs,
I tell my heart to keep pushing.
I kick and I scream and I fight and I thrash
And I pray to God that it's working.
But you are strong, and you pull me back down
Just when I think the light is nearing.
I'm tempted once more to give in, to just sink
But the brightness in my soul is searing.
The fire consumes me and I move once again,
Determined to win this battle.
I'm stronger than you, I've got Hope on my side;
There's nothing in this abyss I can't handle.
With one last push I crash through the surface,
Air cleansing my lungs and my mind.
I escaped your torrent, I've numbed the pain!
I am going to survive.
