Dear First Graders

Dear First Graders,

The school year is starting

Everything is brand new.

Let me tell you a secret,

I am scared too.

You are going to make new friends

And learn so much

Keep your hands to yourself

Because others we do not touch.

We stand in line and follow behind

We raise our hand, we sit not stand.

When others speak we listen

We always remember to share.

When someone is hurting

We do our best to be there.

You are just starting your journey

One I have long since travelled.

We will all work together

So our society won’t unravel.

You think you are small

But really you are so big

We all have gifts and talents

But sometimes we have to dig.

Keep your mind open

Be honest and fair

Try your best each time

Hard work will get you there.

One day you will look back

Today will seem long ago.

Keep today in your heart

Everywhere you go.

I am just your teacher

I must seem so old.

I’m still just a kid too

Or so I am told.

My school days are behind

Yes, that is true.

But this is my first teaching job.

I get to share it with you.

Sincerely,

Ms. Moo

PS I’ll miss you

In grade two.
