Dear Fresh Starts

Dear Fresh Starts,

The beat of a heart is a tick-tock,

A baby’s breath a clock,

Over the river, through the woods,

Until Grandmothers we become.

Of life, less said is more

All know the missed bus home,

Sweat through a favorite teeshirt,

And nights spent all alone.

In and out of years, until

Pink papers and a pen.

Mint masks lush tongues, while

We wear our wolf suits.

The beat of a heart is a tick-tock,

A baby’s breath a clock,

Return in red, saying, “I’d do it again,”

And stay loyal to the road.

Love,

Emily
