Dear Future

Dear Future,

As I look onto you, fear installs

It often fills my eyelids

Sometimes I wonder if I’ll fall

You’re the only one that can lift it

The empty shell I call a body

Walking and walking aimlessly

Why can’t I run to you?

Why can’t I embrace you shamelessly?

During the day, you circulate

Through the night, you haunt

Bodies often ask

Why it’s you I can’t flaunt

There’ll be a day

A day when you’ll stand tall

When I’ll be graced by you

Cheered on by you

Be protected by you

But not today, or next month

Not today at all
