Dear Future

Dear Future,

People ask about you everyday

They ask me where you are, what you’re doing these days.

I still don’t know

I get fed up with the questions

Assumptions that I would know where you are

Why would I know where you are?

Sometimes I’ll lie

Pretend I know where you are and what you’re up to

Today, it’s a veterinarian. Tomorrow, it’s a environmental biologist

The next day, it’s something else that will inevitably change

I am not my future’s keeper

That’s not my decision to make

But everybody else seems to think so

What do I know anyway?

You’re still so far away from me

But sometimes I’ll wake up in a cold sweat

Thinking you finally found me

My whole life I’ve been waiting for you

Biding my time until you found me

But I suppose I’ll have to find you myself

See you soon.
