Dear Future Daughter

Dear Future Daughter,

In life it’s important to be prim and proper, but you’re more than a beautiful face. It’s more important to be smart in life and take everything with a grain of salt, because when everything seems to be crashing down, nothing is ever, “the end of the world.”  While life throws at you the most unexpected obstacles, all challenges have hidden beauties and the most important thing to do is never back down from any challenge. I assure you; you are stronger than you could ever imagine. You are smarter than you could ever imagine, and you are braver than you could ever imagine.

Lesson One: Kids can be cruel. Growing up is tough and words do hurt, but remember in two years from now what they say now will not matter.

Lesson Two: It’s okay to cry sometimes. But don’t let the emotions overwhelm you. Wipe your tears and put on a smile before you walk out the front door.

Lesson Three: No boy is ever worth it. They’ll come and go. At times your heart will hurt so severely, that you will begin to think you will never get over it, but, “this too shall pass.” When the right one comes, he will stay, and he will love everything about you. But do not rush this, because there is so much more to life than a significant other.

Lesson Four: Respect your elders, and find friends of all ages. Some of the best people to get advice from are those whom are old and wise. They have many stories to tell, some that will help shape you into the beautiful person whom you are to become.

Lesson Five: Don’t be afraid to try new things. It’s okay to jump off a bridge, but make sure the water is deep enough. You’ll regret it later if you don’t.

Lesson Six: It’s okay to be a teacher’s pet. School is important, don’t take your education for granted. It is the foundation of your future. Don’t turn in assignments late and most importantly study something you are passionate about. Because if you are good at what you do, you will be successful.

Lesson Seven: It is important to travel. Travel the world my dear, but be smart financially when you do it. There is natural beauty everywhere, even in the most unexpected of places.

Lesson Eight: Polish your boots and shower each night. Dress to impress wherever you go, people will critique you on your self-presentation, look professional and do not forget to say “please” and “thank you.”

Lesson Nine: I once read a book that urged me to always “make my bed,” and my dear that will go a long way. Make your bed and keep your room neat. Fold your clothes while they are still warm from the dryer and don’t forget to open the window for fresh air on warm days.

Lesson Ten: You have a family that loves and adores you immensely. Do not take for granted the time you spend with them because they are your team. Get to know your second cousins, make the drive and cherish these moments.

I have done my best to live by these “ten lessons” and I can say without a doubt I am very blessed and have had an extraordinary childhood. I have created the most cherished memories alongside a loving family, friends and characters out of the norm. Don’t forget to listen to the stories of those who pass you on the street, listen to the music your grandfather insists you will fall in love with and don’t stop, but jump. For I know now, at a youthful age that my favorite memories are yet to come, with you by my side. There is a wide world out there, it can be intimidating and sad, but more importantly, beautiful, just keep your head up high.
