Dear Future Daughter
Dear future daughter,
I promise this isn’t another here goes mom again moment.
I promise I have something to say that’s worthwhile.
I’ve been here before, I’ve been in your shoes
So trust me when I say it’s going to be alright.
I remember getting asked to the homecoming dance
I thought I needed a date to have fun.
But when he ditched me for this other girl and his friends,
Well I proved myself wrong once again.
I remember the day a boy told me he loved me for the first time
The butterflies in my stomach wouldn’t stop flying.
I thought this boy would end up being my world, my everything
But I ended up in my bedroom 3 months later crying.
So future daughter, I’m here to tell you that a man shouldn’t define you
He shouldn’t decide what you do with your life,
Where you go to college or anything else in between.
Just trust me when I say, that you’re only just a teen.
The whole world is in front of you, you’ve got some things to lose
But I’m here with you every step of the way.
I loved you before you were even born
Because that’s the way my mother loved me.
