Dear Future Me...
Dear Future Sam,
I am writing this letter so you never forget who you are in life. When life gets rough just remember this poem and you will remember yourself
I am from a family with a beautiful background. A background with the soft sand you can run through your toes and the water that foams up between your feet.
The wind blows a fresh breeze that is inhaled. The sun that rises and sets leaving colors from red to orange, orange to yellow and yellow to blue.
My background is the open field where one runs freely with the smell of freshness. The willow tree’s branches droop over giving us a shade to hide under. The other trees that release a pine scent that is like a drug.
Thunder crashing and lightning strikes, blinds one, indication that a thunderstorm is emerging. The rain that pours is a serine sound that causes one to become drowsy.
I am from a background where a ball is placed in front of you and you are expected to know how to kick it. We are trained to become good at this sport. A soccer ball is kicked and skills develop that demonstrates dedication.
A hot summer day in June, we head on down to the pool. The bright blue pool with others’ urine, I guess, has a high concentrated smell of chlorine. You lay down on a chair to receive un coup de soleil while later on you bathe.
A background where one lies back on a hammock and listens to the children run around laughing and playing. A cricket with its loud noise awakens one. Other animals are seen and heard that allows one to enter a serene place.
I am from a background where family is an important part of you. They help shape your personality. They are the people who will always be there for you without a doubt.
Your family is a gift not everyone has that gift. Some people give their children away and some don’t have one of their parents like me.
The love of your parents is the most important thing, but the main thing is that you have a connection with them. My father left me at the age of three, but he never knew what he left behind. And now I have a stepfather who has loved me since my mom found out she was pregnant. An unconditional love that was given to me and I will always cherish it.
I am from background where nothing is perfect, but I can choose to make it. The things around me define me and mold me to become the person I am today.
I hope that writing this poem will remind where you come from and how you life is full of meaning and define you. Don't forget that! Strive to be great.
Sincerely,
Sam (2018)
