Dear Future Me

Dear Future me,

How do you do?

Tell me what is knew

Tell me what is the same

Tell me about myself

Are you happy?

Are you everything I hoped to be?

Are you still smiling and laughing and playing chords?

I know you would never let me down

Do you still pluck the keys of good old Kimball Piano?

Can you finally perform with a lionheart?

Oh Dear Future Me, think about our friend the glorious Sun!

Oh Dear Sun, you are audacious

You are indomitable

Valorous and gallant

Oh how do you do it Mr. Sun?

You never shy away from your stream of light

You never cease to hide your shining rays

You gleam in the sky with power and grace and flawless dignity

You let every creature and living thing perceive the godliness of your unchangeable streaks

Why, Mr. sun, it is so easy for you with your bigness and boldness

yet so uncertain for one like me who is like a little star among millions

But Dear Future me, even a tiny star can be as glorious as the glorious Sun

Oh Dear Future me, do you remember the day when

me and Music worked together?

Do you remember how terrified we were

How we didn’t raise our hand

How we turned and walked out the door

when our teacher asked for someone to volunteer a musical number

But Dear Future Me

Do you remember How Mr. Music convinced us to turn around

To offer an admired and heartfelt and strangely emotional rhapsody?

To practice and practice on good old Kimball piano to redeem ourself?

Oh the failure the first time we attempted the rhapsody was hard

But Music persisted

But Music had courage

But Music understood my love for Him

And Music would not let me down

So the day came

The day to perform in front of our friends

The day to perform in from of our peers

The day to perform in form of our fellow classmates

The judgement of whom and failure of what

that we were most scared of

But oh Dear Future Me!

What a glorious second chance the day was!

Us and Music left the crowd in awe like the Sun!

A beautiful song it was

A beautiful day it became

A beautiful memory it captured

Afraid of failure and judgement I was

Afraid to share my talent indeed

But we seized the opportunity

Grasped the handle of a door

Through it open and jumped into the air

And oh Dear Future Me

We flew!

Taking a step of courage did us no harm

We overcame fear that day Dear Future Me

Fear of insecurity

Fear of judgment

Fear of failure

But oh did we succeed

So Dear Future Me

Will you be brave?

Will you still take a leap of faith?

Will you still turn around?

Will you strive to be like the Sun?

Oh Dear Future Me!

Have confidence

Have perspective

Have light in your life that directs you

Embrace people like the Sun

And show them your streaks

Forever yourself,

Your Fearless Self
