Dear Future Me

Dear future me, 

Remember when you were little and life was good?

It was just you, your mom, and your grandparents.

You lived in a quaint house, in a small, safe, house.  

But then your grandmother got sick. Momma changed.

Grandmother passed, and grandfather not able to handle the pain left. 

Momma went down a dark path. Your safe house was no longer there.

You loved momma though.

She made bad choices, it hurt momma.

Momma brought home angels every few years. They changed her.

Momma got help, but you still didn't feel 

safe.

Years went by and momma had been clean. You were so proud of her. You still are.

She risked it all for you.

Dear future me, 

Remember when you went to college and had the time of your life?

It was better than high school. No more bullies.

You lost some friends, but you replaced those old ones with new ones who will stay.

Momma said college would be better. She was right.

You were as free as a bird.

Dear future me,

Remember when you fell in love?

Like actually fell in love?

This wasn't infatuation or lust.

This was real and you knew it.

Remember the first kiss? It was magical.

The lips of a man you trusted never felt so warm and inviting.

Remember the first fight? It was scary but you both fought through it.

Remember when he proved his love through small gestures?

Kissing your forehead, holding your hand, talking about the future.

Dear future me,

I hope you learned from all of the hard ships. 

I hope you learned from your hurt.

I hope you are getting married.

I hope your best friend is your maid of honor.

I hope your life is good.
