Dear Future Son

Dear future son,
when you find a girl you like
treat her like she’s your only one.
Do not play with her heart
like a little boy with a gun and a dart
aiming to just break her apart.
Do not be greedy
and lie to her about another just because
you think she’s being “needy”.
Do not treat her like
others have treated me before
repeatedly beating down my psyche
Give her flowers
on days that are grey and pound the floor
for long, dreadful hours.
Sing her songs
and play with her hair to ease her mind
after feeling like everything is wrong.
Talk to her like a friend,
an equal, or companion
because without that it shall all end.
But if she ever mistreats you
beats you, and treats you like trash;
please know that leaving is okay too
You deserve a loving girl
the same way a loving girl deserves a loving boy
because love is universal
I love you
and I hope all will be well
for you too
