Dear Granny,
Dear Granny,
You were there before I ever even asked you to be.
You and bompa held my hand as I struggled through life.
In a bleak childhood I could always count on you,
You have me granny days, a place to stay, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
I could not thank you enough for taking me in.
When I came back at the age of twelve riddled with problems,
You took me and helped me find my way once again.
Since day one you have pushed me to be my best,
You have showed me that I am worth more than my trauma.
Even when you didn't understand my mental illnesses,
You did your best to comfort and get me the help I needed.
It's been a long journey. Five years almost in fact.
But you never gave up on me, even when I was doing bad.
You gave me a home like I have never had before.
And seeing you every day makes my world a little brighter.
I wish I could give you the world, you deserve everything you desire.
I hope I can at least make you proud of my decisions.
When bompa left it was just you and I, and it was hard at first.
Living in sadness with one another, pretending it didn't hurt.
You are strong, much stronger than I could ever be.
You've flourished and thrived and lived your life despite such tragedies.
I'm proud to say I'm your granddaughter, you are my rock.
I know if I ever needed to I could crawl in bed with you and feel safe.
I appreciate you more than these words could ever say.
I love you dearly. Much more than you will ever know.
And I aspire to be just like you when I am grey and old. (just kidding of course).
Love,
Your favorite granddaughter.
