dear heart

Dear Heart,

You were once just a rhythmic sound inside my mother and me. It was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard. What happened? Soon, we were one and life was full of adventure and you were filled with laughter and curiosity. Five came along and you met your very first crush, fingers entangled during reading time had sparked an interest for books ever since. You were filled with wonder. Then we became ten, and the world seemed a little less colorful and we became exposed to the evils of the world, you were filled with sadness. Thirteen creeped around the corner, you were split in pieces for the first time after a boy played with you and left you for dead. I'm so sorry I put you in that position, but we both never saw that coming. Sixteen years now we have been together and we have been through so much that I couldn't bear to see you hurt anymore, so I built walls around you, leaving you in a tower similar to Rapunzel's. Two years later, the outside of those walls have been chipped, worn, and dented but no one has seemed to get remotely close to you. I hope you are well. You have grown so much within the walls however. Mending, healing and growing for me so that one day I will unlock the doors that have kept you trapped for so long. That is my wish for you.
