Dear Heart

Dear Heart,

I feel nothing but ambivalence towards you. I know you only want what’s best for me but you put me in the most uncomfortable situations. Me giving in to your requests sometimes comes at a cost. Plus, you can be very supportive and encouraging but sometimes to a fault. Because you possess all my true feelings you prefer me to make the very decisions I dread, often getting me to take the riskier route rather than the safe route. You allow me to be vulnerable and express how I feel but in the process I get hurt, isolating myself from everything just to heal. However, there were times when I did put myself out there and ended up having one of the best relationships ever. In some instances I chose my pride over you and as a result I went insane, forgetting you’re electromagnetically more powerful than the brain. There were times when you allowed me to trust and I got betrayed, but there were times when I gained people I could really rely on. You allowed me to stay involved with those who never really cared about me and were only concerned with what they could get from me even though it caused me emotional pain, yet you made sure I didn’t give up on those who truly resonated with me and whose feelings were the same. You’ve allowed me to let my guard down for those who consistently let me down every time they come back, breaking you apart into pieces of shattered glass. Yet you’ve also taught me to never let go of my compassionate nature and exhibit unconditional love because people could be in predicaments I know absolutely nothing about. You’ve allowed me to be exposed to the ongoing critiques of naysayers about who I am and the actions I take. But throughout these encounters you’ve ultimately shown me the great fulfillment that comes from being true to myself, engaging in pursuits that nourish my soul which takes a lot of guts to do. And for that I thank you.

Yours truly,

Gabby
