Dear Insecurities

Dear Insecurities,

Can I ask you something? Why? Why do you continue to bother her; to beat her

down when she's at her worst? Every time she builds herself up from the problems

YOU created, here you come ready to tear her down again. Why? Why must you

constantly worry her about finding love, or getting a date to prom, spending hours

and hours trying to beautify herself for a boy who would laugh at the thought of

them even spending time together, or getting into the college of her dreams because

you've convinced her that she can't do it? Because of you, she almost her friends, her

family, and even more important than those things, she almost lost herself. Can you

imagine what that feels like? Oh wait, of course you can't, because the only thing you

you care about is chewing her up and spitting her out. And how do I know all of this?

Because I know her very well; she is the old me. And the new me is not putting up

with your nonsense any longer. From this day forward, you no longer have any

jurisdiction over my life. I am strong, I am powerful, I am beautiful, and as long as

I believe in these things, you my friend, are nothing more than a figment of my

imagination.

Sincerely,

     K.A. Johnson
