Dear Intimacy

Dear intimacy,

I’m sorry that I have neglected you

I’m sorry that I have forgotten the way we used to dance

By myself on the dock, I was never alone

I was at home within myself.

But I have been searching for home in others

I found a man and I fed from his soul

When we parted, I found another

I didn’t want “us,” I wanted “him”

But I am learning I am not a fraction

I do not need to find “the other half”

I see that there is no intimacy more powerful

Than the one between my mind and my body

Deciding to be whole
