Dear Jealousy,
Dear Jealousy,
You've been around for some time now.
You've held my hand and wiped my tears for years.
But I would hardly call you my friend.
You pointed out each and every flaw I have to offer,
and by making me cover up my true self for so long, I forgot who I was without you.
You showed me all the girls I could look like.
You showed me all the people I could be like.
But you were quick to remind me that I'm not like them, I never will be.
There was a day, though, when your power was overpowered.
A deep voice gently tossed "beautiful" in my direction.
A hand caressed mine and dried my tears.
A warm body embraced each and every flaw you were so eager to point out.
I can feel you lurking in the shadows,
waiting for me to be vulnerable,
waiting for me to look at the other girls you have so much power over.
But I'm not like them.
I never will be.
