Dear Justin
J,
It's tough to think about
what I want to say to you in this moment
because there is so much to say,
and I'd like to think I have said all of this
but we both know that's not true.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
I met you in a crowded room of people.
You were funny and happy,
and there was something about you.
How could I have ever known.
How could I have ever known that a year later
we would be best friends.
How could I have ever known that
you'd be the first person I run to first
when I need somebody.
How could I have ever known that
I'd think about those hazel eyes all the time.
Or that you would hold my hand
in life's toughest moments.
That you'd be the one to make me smile
when I'm up to my knees in muddy water.
I could have never pictured my heart,
in its current state,
swollen and bursting at the seams,
full of love for you.
I hope that someday,
when you start to forget the sound of my laugh,
or the way I walk,
you remember how much I love you.
I hope you remember the way I looked at you,
how happy I always was to see you.
How easily I forgave you.
I hope you remember that when you needed me,
I came running.
I hope you remember the days we spent
laying by the river in the sun,
walking together hand in hand,
swimming in cool water.
Thank you for taking a chance on me,
loving me when things get tough,
and being my best friend.
I love you.
